Soon, the leaves will begin to change color and the days will begin to grow shorter. That means that it is time to start thinking about decorating your home for fall. Fall is such a peaceful season and the cooler temperatures are always a welcomed change from the heat of the summer. One of the things that I enjoy most about fall are the quiet moments that I spend preparing our home for the season. Here are 6 fall decor ideas that I love to use in and around the house!
Warm colors
Fall is a time for cozy fires, pumpkin patches and apple cider. Even as I type those words, I can ‘see’ what that looks like – the colors of fall are just the best! I really do enjoy bringing some of those warm colors (and the coziness that come with those colors) inside our house. Colors such as red, orange and yellow are always some of my favorites and help to create a cozy and inviting atmosphere within our four walls.
Pumpkins and Gourds
These autumn staples are perfect for adding a touch of seasonal style to your home. I like to use them to dress up our mantel and other areas like tables and shelves. You can stack them up or add just one small one to any space. You can use real or faux and there are several kinds too, including:
Pumpkins
- Carving pumpkins

- Fairytale pumpkins
Gourds:
- Ornamental gourds

Candles
Nothing says fall (or smells like fall) like candles burning around the house. I love the smells of fall – they just take me back to my childhood. I really enjoy scents that remind me of my past, like pumpkin pie or spiced cider. And, my favorite candle company JUST released their fall candles – CLICK HERE to shop the best smelling fall candles ever!
Warm Materials
Add interest to your decor with textured materials like fur and velvet around the house. You can use throw blankets filled with those warm fall colors – and I use a mix of thin and super chunky ones around my home all season long! I also love to pull out all of my warm pillows and I particularly love the velvet ones and the ones with the nubby textures for fall as well! These simple changes can really help to kick start fall in your home. Plus, utilizing these fall textures will keep your home warm and cozy all autumn long. Natural Elements
Bring the ‘outdoors’ inside by using real (or faux) outdoor inspired pieces in your home this fall. The first thing that pops into my mind is, or course fall stems that you can clip from your own yard or that you can easily buy! But, you can go beyond just the typical leaves and branches! Think about using things like pinecones, pumpkin stems, acorns, etc…. anything that you may find outdoors that would be appropriate for the season! You can go one step further and use things like wood (pine and aspen are popular options) and stone as well. Don’t be afraid to add a few natural elements to your home this season!

6. Metallics
Metallic colors like gold, silver and copper are all popular options to use throughout your home during the fall months and I love them because metallic colors can help to create a warm and inviting ambiance, perfect for the cooler months. Gold and bronze are particularly popular choices for fall, but silver and copper are also beautiful. I particularity love the look of tarnished silver and copper as well! You can use these colors by incorporating pieces that are actually made of these metals (for example, a silver tray or a copper pot) or you can use pieces that are metallic-toned like fabrics. A little bit of metallic can go a long way in giving your fall home decor a fresh and updated look.
