Vintage Halloween decor is so very cute and is also very collectable. Come see which pieces I love and where to get them!
When it comes to Halloween, vintage is always in style. There’s something about Halloween’s spooktacular holiday that lends itself to a vintage aesthetic. Whether you’re looking for vintage Halloween decorations for your home or office, there are plenty of ways to add some retro flair to your space. One easy way to get the vintage look is by shopping at second-hand stores or flea markets for vintage Halloween decorations. You can also create your own vintage-inspired Halloween decor by repurposing items you already have around the house. With a little creativity, you can easily turn any room into a festive haunted house. Read on for some vintage Halloween decoration ideas to get you started.
With October just a few days away, I thought I would share a few of my favorite vintage Halloween finds. I love vintage Halloween decor with all of my heart and I have a rather vast collection of all sorts of pieces – both big and small. But – that doesn’t mean that I don’t love hunting and shopping for more.
A few years ago, when I shared my vintage Halloween collection on Instagram I got bombarded with questions about where I found these cuties. In fact, several people asked if I would be willing to sell items from my collection!! But, even though I love to share, I couldn’t stand to part with the pieces that I have collected. With that in mind, I wanted to give you all a little head start this season and help you build your own personal collection of vintage Halloween decor. Today I am sharing just a few (I will share more soon) of the vintage Halloween decor pieces that I love and where YOU can find them.
I do prefer to shop antique malls and markets for these items in person. Shoot, sometimes I even get lucky and find a vintage Halloween goodie at a thrift store or at an estate sale. But, I have found some of my absolute favorites right here online! This combination of shopping both in person and online has really helped me to grow my vintage halloween collection
Gurley Candles
I recently added a few new Vintage Gurley Candles to my collection and every time I find one it just makes me happy. These Gurley candles are simply the cutest – filled with character and charm. I have shared a blog post in the past about their history (click HERE to read that) but for now just know that they are collectable and darling and offer just the perfect splash of vintage Halloween charm. You can see more Vintage Halloween Gurley Candles here.
Of all the Gurley Candles that I own, this cute “pumpkin man” is my absolute favorite. You can find more like him and others that I am loving here below.
Die Cuts
This old vintage die cut cat is so amazing. I always search really hard for old die cuts that are in good condition and that have amazing graphics. These are really cool ones that I found on etsy.
Sometimes it can be hard to find good “old” die cuts. Even though I really prefer to have authentic vintage Halloween decor, I have ordered a few reproductions over the years and here is a large pack of reproductions with killer graphics for just $15.99.
This witch in the back of this display that I did last fall is a reproduction! I think she looks pretty good.
Paper Mache Pumpkins
I can not begin to explain to you how much I adore these authentic paper mache pumpkins. I have a small collection (of only 5 or 6) that I adore. Long ago, people use to carry these around as literal ‘lanterns’ – with a candle inside. Over the years I have seen these paper mache pumpkins with all sorts of expressions. From happy to scary, these guys have the sweetest faces. Authentic Paper Mache Pumpkins do tend to be very expensive so if you are ever out and find one at a reasonable price – I would recommend you scoop it up! Here are a few authentic ones that you can dream about until you find one out “in the wild.”
Blow Molds
Look at these really cute vintage Halloween blow molds. This photo was taken from a show that I did last fall and this witch and pumpkin were a hit. I also gave away a pumpkin man just like this a while back for my blog giveaway! That was a hit as well! I love these vintage plastic blow molds and I think you all do too, so I had to share these.
You can find these all over from thrift stores to antique malls. You can also find reproductions as well. There is a good mix of new blow mold options here. Over the years, I have used them all over our home. This year I plan to add them to our “Halloween Mantle” – stay tuned!
In Closing
It is important to note that there are a lot of really good reproductions out there. Just because a piece ‘looks’ old doesn’t mean it actually is. I personally prefer authentic vintage Halloween items, but I do own and enjoy some reproductions. What I don’t like is being told that something is old – when it actually isn’t. Because vintage halloween items are so popular, there are now a lot of reproductions out there. Some are so good that even I have been fooled. So, just be aware when you are out there buying. If you want true vintage pieces, make sure you look for signs of age such as wear and tear. Even then, you may still be fooled. You can read more about Halloween Reproductions here.
One last glimpse of a few more cuties:
If you are new to vintage Halloween then you may not even know that there is a whole wide world of amazing vintage items out there. I am so excited that I was able to share just a few of my favorites with you. I plan to share more information about these guys in the future, but today I wanted to just give you a few quick places to begin growing YOUR personal Vintage Halloween Collection.

This was a fun read! I didn’t know people collected vintage HaLLoWeEn! How cool is this…I have my Halloween mask from 1963! My 87 year old mom just gave it to me. It is a majorette face. And how funny that I was a majorette in high school and college. I am not sure how to display it. Any ideas?!

Oh Emily, I love your vintage Halloween collection! I am a vintage lover myself and got a kick out of your paper mache pumpkins! I have always admired from a far since the vintage Halloween items in my area are too steep for my liking, but that does not stop me from admiring other’s collections.
