Things don’t always have to be complicated! Sometimes, simple can be just the thing you need! Things that are simple are usually a little more enjoyable and are usually a little more effortless. With this in mind, I am sharing a very simple DIY that won’t take you very long at all. In fact, it may only take you a few minutes! And – best of all – it only requires a few simple supplies! These cozy yarn hearts are THE project you will want to make this winter. And, they are sure to add some warmth – and hopefully a smile – to your day!
Materials:
- Poster board – to make a heart templet
- Cardboard Hearts – made from the poster board templet
- Yarn – in colors of your choice
- Scissors
- Tape
- Pencile
Steps:
With just a few simple steps, you will have your very own collection of cozy yarn hearts! Let’s jump in and get started!
Make Template
The first step will be to make your heart template. Simply take a piece of poster board and fold it in half. Using a pencil, draw half of a heart. You can make these as big or as little as possible. After you decide on the size you would like, then you will just cut out your heart with scissors.
Cut Out Card Board Hearts
For this step I just used an old amazon box. I cut the flaps off of the box and used the poster board template to trace several hearts. The template is important because it helps to ensure that all of your hearts will be about the same size!
After you trace your hearts, then the next step is to cut them all out.
Wrap Hearts
After the card board hearts are all cut out, it is time to start wrapping them with yarn. You will need to secure the end of the yarn onto a card board heart with a piece of tape. After that – you can start wrapping! This process is easy, just be sure not to go too fast!
Tie A Knot
Once the card board heart is completely covered with yarn then you will be ready to secure the end of the yarn. To do this, simply wrap the end around a few pieces if the wrapped yarn (making sure not to loosen them) and then knot off the end.
Optional: Make A Loop To Hang
You may want to hang these hearts around your home. Adding a loop to your hears is an easy way to make that possible. All you have to do is snip a new section of yarn and run it through a few pieces of yarn at the top of your finished heart. Then, pull your loose ends through and tie/knot it off. Be sure to pull the knot tight so that it doesn’t loosen.
Style Your Cozy Yarn Hearts
These hearts can go just about anywhere. You could toss them in a bowl, use them in your place setting, hang them as a garland – the possibilities are endless. I decided to style my cozy yarn hearts on my very favorite baker’s table. Here, I tucked them in a few spots! I decided to use a thin box to help my hearts stand upright (center of photo) and I also hung one on a knob for a little ‘pop.’
No matter how you choose to style them, these little hearts are the perfect cozy touch for your home! If you enjoyed this quick heart idea, then you may want to check out this one too!
A Second Way To Make A Cozy Yarn Heart
I am adding on a new ‘take’ on these cozy yarn hearts. These were fun to make as well!
- All you have to do is draw a heart shape onto a piece of card board and cut it out. Then trace a heart within the center of the heart and cut it out as well. I found that folding the cardboard and cutting it that way was easiest.
- Take a piece of tape and tape the end of your yarn to the heart and begin wrapping the yarn around the cardboard. It may take you a bit more time to wrap than the previous yarn hearts – but it is still fun to do! Remember, you can go back and cover any gaps that may have occurred while you were wrapping.
- Tie the end of the yarn off on the back side of the heart and make a loop if you plan to hang it.
That’s it! That is all there is to it! An easy spin on the cozy yarn hearts above!
