I started my blog 6 months ago – TODAY! To celebrate … I am sharing my my blogging story and I am answering the question, ‘Is Blogging Still Worth It” for me! Oh … and I am also doing a GIVEAWAY!
On August 28, 2020, after a lot of planning and a little luck, I built up the courage to launch a blog. This blog had been a dream of mine for about two years – but it took me a long time to commit. I kept finding a way to procrastinate. For a while I told myself things like,
“I was too busy to try.”
“I would never understand the ‘back end” of it all.”
“There was not enough time to do one more thing.”
“Blogs were not in style anymore and that maybe no one would read it.”
“It was going to cost too much money to start it.”
The list of excuses went on and on for a long time. Until, in the middle of the pandemic, I decided it was now or never. I told myself that if I didn’t at least try blogging for a short time then how would I ever know if it would be something I would enjoy? I didn’t want to have any regrets. So, I promised myself that I would give it 6 months – and then I would reevaluate.
Well, here we are, 6 months later, and I am so glad that I gave it a shot … because so far I have enjoyed the heck out of blogging! Not only have I discovered that I do have a lot to say (ha!!) but I have also discovered that it really isn’t that hard. Yeah sure, there are still many technical things that I do not understand – but in time, I will learn. I have a great group of blogging pals now and they are teaching me the ropes! This is a journey after all, right!
For me, blogging is a way to elaborate on the things that I share over on Instagram. If you follow me there then you know that I love to share my passion for vintage and decor and for picking and for estate sales, etc. I also love to educate people on the history behind these old things and I love to show people how to style things and how to clean things. You get the idea – the list goes on and on.
The blog was a logical ‘next step’ for me because is a space where I can elaborate on those topics and it is also a place where these things can live on for a long time – and the topics are searchable – so you can find what you are looking for!
There were a few things that I did not expect when I started this journey. For example, I didn’t quite anticipate how long it takes to put a blog post together. I am trying to work on making it a ‘quicker process.” We will see – smile. I also learned that SEO is very, very important. There are a few other things too – but I digress….
Also, for those of you who may be wondering, I have found that blogging is NOT dead – Ha! I learned here online that, “blogging is absolutely still relevant in 2021. In fact, roughly 409 million internet users read about 20 billion blog pages monthly. This is why 53% of marketers prioritize blogging as their primary content marketing strategy. Furthermore, blogging continues to flourish with a 12% increase in the last 5 years.” This kind of information certainly helps to justify the time and energy that I pour into MyWeatheredHome.com!
All I know is that this blog wouldn’t be possible without all of you. I am so honored that you each take time out of your busy days to tune in and read it. So, thank YOU!
