While I realize that Halloween is only a few days away, I just really wanted to share this space on the blog before it passes. The main reason is because these Haunted Halloween Shelves were inspired by my 13 year old son, Cooper.
Let me give you a little back story … This year my middle son, Cooper took it upon himself to decorate our front porch – all by himself. You see, we have a neighbor right down the street who goes ‘all-out’ with the spooky decor each year! His house is super spooky! Earlier this month, I watched Coper walk down to his house and then sit and study it for what seemed like hours. He then came home and immediately asked me if we could run out to the store to get a few ‘supplies” for a ‘spooky scene.’ With a full heart, I took him to Walmart and I watched him carefully choose a few spooky pieces. Then, a few days later, I watched as he added his purchases to our front porch – all by himself. He wanted to do it – and I wanted to give him 100 percent control. It was really very special to watch it all come together.
Now, I am not a big fan of spooky. Not at all. Well, unless you count vintage witches and skeletons – smile. I just do not typically do “haunted and spooky” around my home. But, while I was out shopping one day in early October, I spotted the most haunted light-up pumpkins. They were white and black and had a spooky smile and I immediately thought of my son, Cooper. I popped them in the cart and as soon as I got them home I decided that I was going to put together a little ‘spooky scene’ inside for Cooper. I gathered all the ‘ghostly’ things I could find around the house and I got to work! About an hour later my haunted Halloween shelves were complete!
I decided to use my set of white shelves as the backdrop. These shelves are actually heavy old bookcases that once sat in a library. I got them at an estate sale years ago and decided to paint them white during the pandemic. They offer the perfect backdrop for all of our spooky pieces – the white color really helps to make the colors pop!
There is a mix of my old vintage pieces (of course) and also some new pieces that I found while out shopping over the past few years. I really tried to stay with blacks, whites, and silvers for the most part. I love mixing the colors together in a cohesive way. I also tried to stay away from oranges here – except for the large pumpkin on the bottom shelf. That is Coopers actual candy bucket that he uses each Halloween and I wanted to incorporate it somehow. If you look closely it has a small letter C on the mouth – where Coop put his initial there a few years back – isn’t that so cute!

These shelves were so much fun to create and Cooper (and my other two kids as well) was so excited to have his own little spooky and haunted corner inside the house as well. I love creating thematic spaces in my home (if you follow me on IG then you know that well) – but it makes it extra special when your kids really enjoy your creation! I hope you are inspired to create a few haunted Halloween shelves around your home this season … it isn’t too late! Or maybe you will tuck this little idea in your memory bank for next year! This is indeed why I love sharing here on the blog! It is a place where you can always visit and find the details of the spaces and things that I share here. Thanks so much for joining me! Oh – and if you liked these shelves then you may also enjoy this blog post on my tarnished silver spooky cabinet! See you all soon!
