This year I decided to group all of my vintage Halloween pieces into one space to create the greatest set of spooky vintage halloween shelves ever!
It’s no secret that I love Halloween and one of my very favorite things about this spooky holiday is finding unique ways to decorate my home using vintage items. I am sharing my haunted shelves with you all here just in time to inspire YOU to get spooky with your vintage Halloween finds as well!
It’s the spookiest time of the year, which means it is time to break out the Halloween decorations! But – as you may expect – I did not just settle for the current store-bought decorations. I certainly included a few new store-bought pieces but (like most holidays) I just had to put a vintage spin on my holiday decor by incorporating tons of vintage spooky finds. Not only do these cuties give my home a one-of-a-kind look, but they also gives off that nostalgic Halloween feeling that that I find to be so charming!
This year I decided to take my time and I decorated these spooky vintage halloween shelves slowly. I carefully unwrapped all of these special pieces and I took the time to admire each one. In fact, I can remember most (if not all) of the places where I found each and every one of these special items. I love the way that these old goods come “wrapped in special memories!” For example, I can remember digging around at an estate sale about 4 years ago and being filled with joy when I found these! How fun is it to be able to be transported back in time by these vintage pieces – that is the charm that I love.
After I got everything unpacked, I then began the process of decorating and styling these white shelves. I actually decided to approach these shelves in the same way that I did back in December when I decorated them with my Santas. (You can see that Santa Installation Here.)
The very first thing that I did was to take everything off of the shelves and dust them off. I always like to start with a clean slate. Next, I added back in some of my primitive staple pieces such as the crockery and books. Doing this serves as a way to break up the repetition of those halloween color. Also, the primitive pieces provide structure and helped to organize the large number of halloween decor pieces that are sitting in this space!
I carefully tried to organize all of these pieces in a variety of ways that would make it appealing to the eye. One way to do that was to create ‘mini vignettes’ within the shelves. I was intentional to create little ‘seperations,’ or what I like to call moments of pause, so that the entire area wasn’t too overwhelming. This also helps to maintain interest and to keep your eyes moving across all the shelves!
Quick Tip
Sometimes it can be difficult to get these old finds to stand up properly. I have found things like double sided tape (do not use on paper) and glue dots and sticky tak help a lot. For example, to keep this old cookie cutter upright, I simply used a ball of sticky tack and pressed it in between the crock and the cookie cutter.
So you all know by now that one of my very favorite things about this spooky holiday is finding unique ways to decorate my home using vintage items. Here are some of the things that I incorporated here on my shelves this year.
- these paper mache pumpkins
- these gurley candles
- these old candy bags

- these vintage cups
