Are you looking for some beautiful flower inspiration? I am sharing how I styled my fall flowers on the mantel just in time for the season!
What’s better than a fresh bouquet of vibrant fall flowers? Not much, in my opinion! That’s why I was so excited to dress up our mantel with some beautiful blooms and I am sharing the process with you all right here!
Over the weekend, I attended a lovey baby shower for a dear friend. It was a charming shower that included beautiful white outdoor tents, a variety of delicious foods to enjoy, and tables covered in soft white linens. Atop each of those round tables was a beautiful flower arrangement that my neighbor, Carla created. She is a magician when it comes to flowers and she was able to design the most stunning centerpieces for the special occasion.
The day after the shower, my neighbor Carla dropped off one of the arrangements for me to enjoy! I was so happy. I quickly decided that I wanted to put this beautiful arrangement in my very favorite room in our home, the upstairs living room. I then decided that I wanted to get creative with these flowers and so I decided to do something I have not done before. I decided to add these fall flowers on the mantel and I used them as a focal point for the simple fall mantel look!
If you visit me here on the blog or over on instagram often then you know that I love to use things that inspire me as inspiration for new looks around my home. That is exactly what happened here – as soon as I saw those flowers … my mind started racing with ideas on how I could create a space around them.
I wanted to make sure that the flowers stood out (as the focal point) so I decided to keep everything else ‘minimal.’ I loved the colors within the arrangement and so I drew from that. I brought in only a few additional pieces into this space that I felt would not only compliment the colors of the flowers but that would also add some texture within the space. As you can see, I added gourds, a few fall stems, some wheat, and some white pumpkins – all of which I feel work well with the flowers. (I also just noticed that these are all elements that are a nod to mother nature – smile.) I didn’t want to add anything else that was dramatic that I felt would “compete” with their beauty. I should note, the mirrors, apothecary cabinet, the trunk and a few other pieces are semi-permanent fixtures in this space!
Once I decided that I wanted the flowers ‘off center” on the mantel I then chose to balance it out with a few stems that I had on hand in those same dark tones over on the other side. I added in a bit of moss and a few white pumpkins to cover the ends of them stems and to help tie the two sides together. Next, I added a basket of gourds below along with a few more white pumpkins and the old trophy full of wheat! I was very happy to have remember that I had an apple gourd that I felt was the perfect color to add in as well.
I do want to mention, because I am asked about it all the time, that these mirrors are a mix of old and new. The large white one is from Kirklands long ago. Sadly, it is discontinued. The other three gold mirrors are all antique finds that I have picked up over the years. I encourage you to scour your local antique malls for similar ones! You can also check here for more options!
One more thing! I should probably tell you the names of the fall flowers on the mantel here. I asked my neighbor, Carla what she included in her beautiful arrangements. She told me that the flowers and greenery that were used in the arrangement that inspired this whole space include:
I hope this inspires you to use flowers as a focal point and as a source of inspiration around your own home. If you don’t have a mantel that you can use … no worries … you can create a space like this in any area such as a set of shelves or any tabletop! I can not wait to see how you use natures beautiful colors in and around your own home!!!!
Blessings, Emily
