This classical Christmas music playlist is sure to remind you just how beautiful classical music can be! I invite you to take a break and relax!
For the past several years our family has enjoyed a very special Christmas tradition. I did as a child with my family so it was only natural that I keep this tradition going with my own kids. For years now my family gets all dressed up and we head to the big city to hear the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra preform their annual Christmas Concert. This is always a special mix of instrumental and choral music and each year seems to be more special than the previous. There is something simply magical about listening to live music – especially during the Holidays.
When I was younger, I was a pretty good violinist. I began playing the violin at the age of 7 and by the time I was 13 I was playing in the local Symphony. I was the youngest person ever accepted at that time. I spent my several summers at at Interlochen, an 8 week intensive music camp. I later went to college on a violin scholarship and played in the Wooster Symphony Orchestra for four years. I was around classical music a lot as a kid!
As you may expect, I played a lot of Christmas music during my many years playing the violin. From the Nutcracker to the Messiah, it seems like I have played all of the great classics. Christmas music was always my favorite to play! While I no longer play the violin ‘professionally,’ I can still remember the fingerings for so many pieces.
It should come as no surprise then that I just adore listening to Classical Christmas music. It reminds me of all of the many hours I spent learning and preforming back when I was younger.
This year, because of the pandemic, we will not be continuing our family tradition. Sadly, we won’t be getting dressed up or taking in all if the sights and sounds that a live music performance has to offer. And, while this does make me sad, I will still be giving my kids a “Classical Christmas Music” experience and I am excited to share that experience with all of you!
As you may know, I recently created a Spotify account (you can follow my Spotify profile here) and I just completed my very first Classical Christmas Music Playlist. This was so very fun to put together. I carefully curated all my very favorites – many of which I have played before. Here, you will find a great mix of traditional classics as well as a few pieces that may be new to you! And, as I was selecting these pieces , it felt as if I was right there sitting in the audience. I hope that you get that same feeling!
There are two ways that you can access the playlist. You can click here to listen to listen directly within Spotify or you can listen to the Classical Christmas Playlist below.
A Classical Christmas Music Playlist
I so hope you enjoyed this Classical Christmas Music Playlist. I truly enjoyed putting this one together. If you liked this then you may also enjoy A Very Vintage Christmas Music Playlist. That playlist is full of all the best “vintage” classics!
Wait … There Is More!
In addition to playing the violin, I did spend many years both as a music therapist and as a music educator. During those years I listened to A LOT of kids Christmas music.
I wanted to share just a few of my favorite kids Christmas songs with you all here as well. Sadly, I couldn’t find all of my top picks, but I think I put together a good little list. Throw on this playlist while you are making cookies or doing a holiday craft. I can tell you first hand, music will help to keep those kiddos happy and carefree. I guess my hope is that your children/grandchildren will enjoy listening to some of these Christmas songs – just like I do!
You guys – thanks so much for following along and for being here with me at My Weathered Home. I am so excited to share even more music with you all. Stay tuned!
