Come join me for a vintage Christmas Home Tour. See how I styled our open floor plan and how I mix in many of my vintage Christmas collections!
Merry Christmas to you all! I am so excited to welcome you into my home this holiday season. With Christmas morning only a few days away, I felt it was about time to open up our doors and share our little home with you – all dressed up for Christmas. I am so excited for you to see all of our bright and cheery spaces.
If you are new here then you may not know – but I love vintage collections! And – of all the collections I have – vintage Christmas collections are my favorite. (You can see a variety of my favorite collections here on instagram.). From vintage Christmas blow molds to vintage Christmas candles, I love it all … and I have a lot. Even though I wish it were possible, I could never put it all out. That would simply be too much! So, each season, I work hard to pick and choose which collections to put out. I rework and edit my spaces until I feel it “works” and I am always shooting for a look that isn’t too overwhelming for the eye! With that, join me to see how a few of the spaces in my home came together this year!
Our home is one huge open floor plan – so when I am decorating I feel like I am basically working with ONE large space. With this in mind, I try to create ‘areas’ within our big space that work well together. It can be a challenge sometimes (especially with all of my collections), but I can usually make it work. Adding Christmas accents in different spaces makes the whole home festive.
I love to weave in all of my collections – especially during the holidays. I use cupboards and shelves to create vignettes and I try to organize those spaces in a way that isn’t overwhelming to the eye. I have found that keeping ‘like items’ together in groupings is the easiest way to accomplish this! I want the eye to flow from area to area and I want it to all make sense.
Let’s Take The Vintage Christmas Home Tour
Entryway & Dining Room
Our front door opens right into the entryway and dining room. Here you will find my favorite green cupboard – full of vintage Putz houses and bottle brush trees. Here I created a little winter village inside this cabinet. These charming little houses have such a great patina and add the perfect little touch of Christmas. It is always such fun to layer these old pieces in! This area gives me that cozy lived in feel while also being fun and festive.
Our dining room gets a lot of action each and every day. There is usually someone hanging out in here all day long. From homework to game nights, this area is typically very busy! I keep this area pretty minimal because it is such an active area in our home! This year I added in a few vintage ornaments, my favorite snow family blow mold, and this gorgeous long needle pine wreath.
Kitchen
Our kitchen has a coca bar this year! To say that the kids are excited about that is an understatement. This was a fun – and yummy – addition!
We also have our gingerbread village in the kitchen this year too! We love doing these charming houses each year.
Breakfast Room
Our breakfast area is one of my favorite rooms in our home. It is light and bright – and it is where we spend a lot of time together! This space also holds some of my favorite collections during the holidays. I have my Santa mug collection tucked into this beautiful cabinet and I love to enjoy this collection mixed with my everyday items this time of year!
In addition to Santa mugs, this area also holds my very favorite tree – this live short and stubby guy! Isn’t he just the cutest sitting in the huge mixing bowl. I gave him a few ‘butter mold’ ornaments and I feel he makes the perfect breakfast room tree!
This area also holds my gorgeous white cabinet. For the holidays I do two things with this chippy white beauty. For a more simple look, I simply add a wreath to the front of the cabinet. It is always amazing to me how a simple pop of green can add such a cozy Christmas feel.
The other way that I decorate this cabinet is a bit more ‘busy’. On the inside of the space I decided to pile in some of my vintage Santas. I have layered in these vintage and antique jolly fellows in a way that has a high level of impact but I stuck with the same colors and ‘subject’ to help give the entire cabinet a more cohesive look. Sometimes we keep the doors open and other times we close it and hang the wreath! I love that I can easily have two totally different ‘looks.’
Living Room
Our living room is a simple space but one that I love to keep cozy with lots of pillows and plants. Our sofa faces our mantel and that is where our television is. I like to keep our mantle really minimal so that the eye doesn’t have to compete with ‘things’ when we are watching television. So, we really only have a simple garland and stockings in this space!
Our Christmas Tree
Every year we buy a real tree and we cover it with our family ornaments. We let the kids hang them all and they really enjoy this tradition. It is so much fun listening them talk about the memories attached to each ornament as they are pulling them out of the boxes.
Funny story though – this year I thought the kids would enjoy a change! I went out and bought the most beautiful 9 foot faux tree ever. It was tall and majestic and it was packed with over 3000 little lights. I loved it so much and I thought they would too! BUT – oh NO! As soon as my kids saw the tree in a box they began protesting. Because this wasn’t our normal tradition, they wanted no part! After a family vote, we returned the faux tree and picked out this years ‘perfectly imperfect’ real one! I sure am glad we stuck with our tradition!
One of my favorite ‘new-to-me’ pieces that I am using this year is this amazing antique goat sled. It is the perfect color red for the holidays, right! Here, I simply popped in another stubby tree and added some packages. I love the rustic feel of it and that it helps to fill out the space under the tree.
