I am sharing our very favorite vacation spot, Amelia Island! Read below to learn more about the location and our family’s beach house.
If you follow me on instagram then you know that we recently took a trip down to Amelia Island, Florida. I am very lucky because my parents own a home there on the island and our family loves to go down for a visit whenever we can. I will usually share portions of our time down there in stories on Instagram (you can follow me here) and when I do that I seem to get a ton of questions about both the location and the house itself.
Amelia Island is located not too far from the Georgia state line off of I95 and is part of the Sea Islands chain of barrier islands on the Atlantic coast. Fernandina Beach, the city there on the island, is quite charming and has a lot to offer. When we are there we find all sorts of things to do – in addition to going to the beach. For example, you can tour Fort Clinch, which was a former military post. You can also enjoy a stroll down Main Street in the historic district of Fernandina which is full of great restaurants and charming shops! And, if you go down to Main Street you HAVE to visit the Fernandina Fantastic Fudge Shop – it is the one place we visit every single time we visit.
Of course, there is golf for the grown ups and kids with multiple course and putt-putt locations on the island. We also like to drive down A1A, the main road that runs along the eastern side of the island. The houses along the road are always fun to look at. From old lighthouse designs to new houses with glass walls that you can see through, they are all so interesting. And there’s plenty of fishing available if you like. We will occasionally drop a line into one of the ponds in Amelia Island Plantation – it’s so fun the see the kids reaction when they catch something! When the kids are a little older we hope to go out on a charter and catch some bigger fish!
My parents recently renovated their home a few years back and I feel they did an awesome job. Their attention to detail while maintaining the integrity of the original vision for this home is perfect – in my humble opinion. Nestled inside Amelia Island Plantation Resort, their home is only a short walk (or even shorter golf cart ride) to the beach. Their home includes 4 bedrooms and 3 baths as well as a full kitchen and living areas. My favorite spot in the house is the bright and sunny sunroom that is always full of natural sunshine.
My parents renovated their home a few years ago and when you walk inside you almost forget that you are staying in a beach house. My parents wanted a really clean and modern vibe and I feel that they accomplished that well. What is neat is that they successfully mixed many mid-century pieces, like their dining room set, in with their modern new pieces of furniture. There are so many things that I love about this house and in fact, seeing their renovation process gave me the courage to take on our own kitchen renovation – which we are smack dab in the middle of right now.
Many of my Instagram friends wanted to know if my parents rent their beach house out and they do not. But here are a few rental sites that I found for both the community that they live in and for surrounding areas on Amelia Island as well.
There are also a number of great hotels to stay at as well. I highly suggest the Omni Amelia Island Resort because it is located in the same community as my parents.
I have been coming to Amelia Island since I was about 6 years old. My grandmother would rent a home there in the same community for a few months every year and we would spend our spring break vacation there when I was growing up. I have such find memories of this place. (For example, my grandmother sent me fudge from the Fernandina Fantastic Fudge Shop when I was in college and couldn’t make it down for a visit.) So, you can imagine that this place holds a special place in my heart and I am so happy to be sharing this childhood spot with my very own family as an adult. While it has changed a lot over the years, I feel it is still as beautiful and as charming as it was when I was a young girl. I highly recommend making an effort to check out Amelia Island, Florida if you get the chance. You are sure to enjoy it too.
The next time we go to the beach house I will try to take some additional pictures to share here on this post. I only had a few on my phone – but I plan to get a more for you all. Thanks for being here and for taking a moment to read all about our family beach spot. Oh, and if you want, I would love it if you’d share where your family enjoys to go for a good beach trip! I really have only vacationed here the past 44 years. What beach spots do you recommend?

Beautiful area! I live near Palm Beach so we have a beach year round. There’s a sign in our local restaurant that says “I live where you vacation!”. Pretty much sums up my life for the last 53 years!
