You won’t believe what I found yesterday! Below I am sharing seven of the antique finds that I love from my latest pickin’ trip and I think you’re gonna love them too!
As you may know by now, I have been busy preparing for an upcoming outdoor sale (you can check out all of the details for that event here). In preparation for this, I have REALLY been working hard to find cool vintage items for all of the shoppers to enjoy. Yesterday, I ventured out to a few new pickin’ spots in search of the perfect items and I definitely found some hidden gems! I am sharing a few of my favorite antique finds with you here below!
Dry Measure
This amazing dry measure is a great primitive piece that would have been used to measure things like grain. I can just imagine them being used in old country general stores long ago. Now, they can used in our homes in many other ways. In particular I like to fill a dry measure with a beautiful houseplant. This one is a 1/2 bushel and is just perfect! You can read more about the history of the dry measure here.
Salt & Pepper Shakers
There is a funny little story that goes along with this set. I found the pepper shaker sitting alone on a table among several other salt and pepper sets. You can imagine my disappointment when it’s ‘match’ was nowhere to be found on that same table. I debated if I should take just the pepper for a moment and then I just decided to do it because I really was drawn to the retro feel! To my surprise, I found it’s match in an entirely different room – it must have been moved. I was so excited when I found it that I even let out a little squeal. The moral of this story is, “Never give up the hunt!” Sometimes things really do work out in your favor! This retro shaker set has such a fun and whimsical vibe and I was so very happy to find them – both!
Small Antique Sewing Machine
I am not sure if this is a child’s sewing machine or a salesman’s sample – but no matter what it is – it sure is a little cutie. I couldn’t find any embossed or stamped information on it, which makes researching it a bit more difficult, but I think it has a charming look!
Smokey The Bear
I love Smokey the bear and when I saw this sign I knew that it had to come home with me. It is a heavier enamel sign and it is marked 1988! It isn’t super old, but I was drawn to it anyways. I loved the deep dark green and the bear graphic. I actually thought that Porter would love it for his room, but I haven’t convinced him yet – but the dark green really would match his walls perfectly – click here to see his room that we just completed.
Vintage Stamp Machine
I found this stamp machine at an estate sale that I went to in the town that I grew up in. There I learned that the man who owned it previously had owned a few of the local drug stores. It turns out, this old stamp machine sat in one of the stores that I visited as a child! I love that it carried a little piece of ‘local history’ with it.
Vintage Linens
I picked up a stack of old linens while I was out. I love to snag these when I can because they add a little layer of texture and coziness to any space! The best thing – these are in really great condition – that is a bonus! While I love the neutral chenille bedspreads for sure, my heart is really drawn the colorful quilt topper. Which do you prefer?
Sunshine Clover Leaves
Just the other day I posted a blog post about Vintage St. Patrick’s Day items that I feel you should be collecting now. In that blog post I shared that I love to pick up anything with a clover graphic. So, you can imagine my excitement when I found this really old Sunshine Biscuit tin – covered with a paper label that has a clover on it. I about died – I was so in love the moment I scooped him up! Isn’t he perfect for St. Patrick’s Day!
