I wanted to create an easy fall mantel for the start of the fall season – come see exactly what I used and how I did it!
Last week I spent some time working on this fall mantle. I started with a clean slate – just a bare mantel and the large white mirror. I knew that I wanted to create a quick and easy fall mantel to ease us into fall. I wanted to keep it fairly simple yet I still wanted it to be “eye catching.’
The first thing I did was make this fall garland. I knew I wanted to have a swag of some type and I couldn’t find what I wanted at our local shops – so I just made this one. All I did was use stems from Hobby Lobby. (You can see how I made that Garland here on my IG page – just look for the highlight button entitled Fall Garland.)
I actually used quite a few stems because I really wanted a full look. I simply tied the stems together with floral wire, being careful to stagger them apart, and then I carefully pulled the leaves out and ‘fluffed’ them to create the full look. Because it was so full the garland turned out to be a little bit heavy so I used painters tape to secure it to the mantel.
Next I added in a few additional mirrors on the mantel. I was careful to choose mirrors that complimented the colors in the leaves. Luckily I had a few to chose from. I love my round gold mirror that I picked up from a friend for only a few dollars. I also love the rectangle one that my dad picked up for me from a thrift store. The colors of each of them compliment the colors in the garland well and I feel they work well together!
I then added in a few old stoneware bottles and a clock there on the end. I did not want it to be too cluttered up there because I wanted to focal point to really be the garland. I did however, feel like it was missing ‘something.’ I couldn’t really put my finger on it, but I knew I wanted to add in a little something ‘more.’ A few days ago I found this old Paint By Number (you can find a similar one here) and I felt it was exactly what I was looking for. I love that it adds just a bit of color there on the opposite end of the mantle.
Lastly, I used a few other little fall pieces around the fireplace that I felt would compliment the mantel. I wanted to keep it kind of simple so I just filled an old split oak basket (see more of those here) with old stoneware jugs (see more of those here)!
I always keep these drawers on top of the old chest and for this season, I filled a few of the little drawers with straw and dried putka pods (you can find those here).
This was a very carefree and easy fall mantel to create – but I love it. All you need are a few mirrors, some fall stems, and a couple of jugs to recreate it! If you enjoyed this look then you may also want to check out how I created this fall look in my kitchen last year or this fall look I did on my peg rail.

That magnolia garland is so pretty for the fall I love how the thickness in the leaves gives such a nice vintage vibe for your mantle and the colors are great too.
