The light fixtures in and around your home can become an important part of your ‘decor.’ When we first moved into our home back in 2011, I was indifferent about the ‘builder grade’ light fixtures that were throughout the house. However, over the years, I have been slowly changing out some of them out to better reflect ME. I have learned that light fixtures can be a great way to complement your style. I have also learned that you can easily spend BIG BUCKS on lighting for your home – but I am here to tell you that you don’t have to. Today I am sharing a handful of affordable lighting upgrades that we have made. While I will always prefer natural light, I am so happy with these small and affordable changes that we have made. Oh – and you just may be surprised when you see where a few of these are from!
*Just a quick note, always read reviews of lighting products before you purchase. And be sure to measure too – I have learned the hard way that the pictures online don’t always accurately depict the product!
Kitchen
Every time I share our kitchen light fixture I get questions about it. Everyone is shocked when I tell them that it came from Home Depot! They are also shocked when I tell them that it cost less than $300! Now, the exact one that I have is no longer in stock – but this one is a close second (in looks and in price)!
Dining Room
Less than a year ago we replaced the light fixture in our dining room. This one also came from Home Depot and it was less than $200. This is certainly a Pottery Barn dupe (see the more expensive version of the fixture here) – but I am very pleased with this cheaper version for sure! I did change out the light bulbs on this one. I ordered these candelabra bulbs from amazon because I wanted a ‘whiter’ light!
Hallway
We have two of these light fixtures in our upstairs hallway and I also have one in our entryway. We love this vintage inspired schoolhouse light fixture so much! We got ours from Urban 33 on Amazon and they are currently sold out. This fixture below is practically identical and it is the exact same price that I paid a few months ago! You can not go wrong with these.
Outdoor
Two summers ago, we changed our outdoor lights. We love this lantern style for sure! Again, the exact ones that we purchased are no longer in stock – but this is the same idea!
Laundry Room
This was the very first light fixture that we replaced. This is a very affordable choice and is an easy way to kick off your new lighting adventures!
P.S.
Lamps are also a quick an easy (and sometimes inexpensive) way to upgrade a space! Here are some of the recent lamps I have purchased for our home!
P.P.S.
I am actively looking for a few new light fixtures for our home this very moment. I want to add a new light fixture in the master bedroom and also the upstairs living room. While searching for the perfect light for those spaces, I have discovered that there are many light fixtures that I am loving – so I thought I would share a few with you! (And FYI – some of these are affordable and a few of these are a splurge …. can you tell which ones are which?)

I luv all of your light fixture choices! Changing things up from the builder choices make a big difference. I have a long way to go, but have started with the dining room and kitchen.
I am enjoying your blog. It is inspecting as always!
Thanks for sharing all your creative ideas!

I like your small mirror behind your collection of rolling pins, sitting on your cabinet. You have amazing ideas.
