Who loves decorating for St. Patrick’s Day? If YOU do then I can not wait to show you this! Learn how to make a little shamrock out of a few simple materials – and the best part – it takes almost no time at all!
Today I went searching for a live shamrock plant. I like to add these little green beauties into my decor this time of year for a splash of color around the house and in my displays. Sadly, after going to three stores, I could NOT find one! Once I got past my frustration, I decided to just make my own. All you need are a few supplies and a few minutes to spare. Read below to see how to make a shamrock in just a few easy steps!
Materials
- Green Crepe Paper Streamers
- Scissors
- Floral Wire
- Green Floral Tape
- Wire Cutters
- Glue Gun
Steps
Cut Out Your Shamrock Shape
Simply cut off a section of crepe paper and fold it a few times. You can eyeball the size of your folds depending on how big you want your shamrock to be.
Once you have your streamer folded in on itself a few times, then fold the entire thing in half and then cut out your shamrock shape.
This is an example of the shape that you want to cut out. Here it is!
It may take you a time or two to get a ‘shamrock shape’ – but don’t worry! These clovers do not have to be perfect! However, this is wear you can flex your creative muscle and get creative! I only did a three leaf shamrock – but I want to try to cut out a four leaf one soon!
Prepare Your Stem
Making the stem of the shamrock is pretty easy. All you have to do is cut a section of floral wire – I cut off 2 – 3 inch sections for each of my shamrocks. Once the floral wire is cut to your desired length, simply wrap each stem with green floral tape. The floral tape adds a little ‘size’ to the stem and adds texture too, making it look more like a real stem!
Connect Your Shamrock and Your Stem
All you have to do is use a little dab of hot glue to connect your shamrock and stem. Just be careful NOT to burn your fingers while you are doing this!
NOTE: I found that it’s best to hold the stem a moment after attaching the shamrock. If you put it down too quickly, the hot glue will stick to the surface before it dries.
Wrap Up
That’s it folks! That is all there is to it! This quick and easy Shamrock craft may be just what you need to add a little St. Patrick’s Day cheer to any shelf or table.
