Do you love to create vignettes in your home? I know I sure do – but sometimes it can be hard to figure out where to start! Organizing a vignette by color is easy to do and I am sharing a few of my strategies!
When I first started my instagram account, one of my biggest and wildest dreams was to be in a magazine. I have been lucky enough, thanks to the power of social media, to make that happen a few times now and today I am excited to chat about my feature in the July 2022 issue of Country Sampler! I am especially excited about this feature because they chose to highlight something that I really enjoy – organizing a vignette by color.
I talk a lot over on Instagram (you can follow me over on IG here) about the different ways that I chose to organize my vignettes. I have a few strategies that I depend on and one of the ways that I enjoy executing a good vignette is by grouping things according to their color.
I will admit that sometimes my vignettes can be really ‘busy.’ That is because I enjoy creating spaces that center around a season or a holiday or an idea – and often those “themes” can involve a wide variety of items.
I have learned over time that one great way for me to “edit” a busy ‘vignette idea’ is by grouping pieces together by color. I learned this through trail and error – I have zero formal training – but I do know that I like things to be organized and tidy! Choosing to arrange areas around my home and in my antique booth by using ‘color’ as my filter has been great way to keep my ‘busy spaces’ nice and neat!
There are many ways to manipulate color! For example, from time to time, I like to use the power of just one specific color to bring life to a space. To showcase this, Country Sampler used this photo of some of my ‘yellow’ favorites. While there are a lot of different pieces here in this space, I feel that using the one single color creates a cohesive look and allows the eye to see the entire space as one big unified ‘moment.’
A good thing to remember is that you don’t have to stick to just ONE color. You can mix and match colors in a way that can highlight collections and spaces or even holidays and themes. For instance, during the summer months, I like to fill my cupboards with all sorts of red, white, and blue items – but they don’t have to be specifically patriotic. In the photo above that Country Sampler used, I chose to fill a table top with all sorts of utilitarian items for the 4th of July – but none of them were made for that purpose. I feel that this space still ‘works’ because of the colors of the items!
For example, displaying a large number of spools of thread in a cabinet could potentially be overwhelming to the eye – but I found that when I organized them according to color the spool cabinet looked much more pleasing to the eye!
My hope is that this blog post all about Organizing A Vignette By Color will remind you that sometimes using color as a filter to edit your spaces can help to make them appear more pleasing to the eye. I realize that this is just one very specific way to organize a vignette but I have found a lot of success with it. There are lots of ways you can work on your spaces – but working with color is so much fun! (You may also enjoy this blog post where I share more general tips on how to create a vignette!)
