Today I am sharing a few easy ways to ease into Valentine’s day with these pink and red vintage decor ideas for your home!
Yesterday on Instagram I shared a post that featured a mix of some of my red and pink vintage kitchen items that I popped into a chippy white shelf. In my caption, I explained that featuring “every day items like these in pink and red” is a simple way to ease into Valentines Day – especially for those of us who just put away our holiday decor. Many people commented on the post that they would not have thought to mix the two colors of pyrex together for the season. That made me think about all the other really small mixes of red and pink “everyday items” that could be used for the same purpose – to ease into the Valentines season. With that, I am listing 5 red and pink vintage decor ideas here below!
Red And Pink Buttons
I love buttons – vintage button that is. Not all decorating has to take a lot of time and tossing a few (or a lot) of old buttons into a glass jar or even an ironstone bowl is super quick to do and it is easy! I love the idea that it doesn’t have to be hard all of the time. You could also do the same thing with any sewing notion such as spools of thread, tomato pin cushions, ribbon, and lace. Just adding that little pop of color here and there can add interest to any space!
Other Bowl Fillers that I can think of off hand include: These Stamps and These Handles and These
Red And Pink Books
This too is an easy idea. Just add some red and pink books onto your shelves for a pop of Valentines color! I also will use books like this to raise other pieces ‘up’ – I love to see the old pages peeping through. I like to find these old books all over the place but I suggest checking your local thrift stores and resale shops for the very best deals!
Red And Pink Transferware
I think this idea offers a more sophisticated look. Red transferware is pretty easy to find and very beautiful. There are all sorts of colors and patterns out there. But I love the red for Valentines! I will admit, I don’t often see a lot of “pink” transferware but I feel like there are so many version of red and it you pile them all together, the lighter red ones will look ‘almost’ pink! I didn’t pull all of my red out (only the two plates above), but I am excited about gathering some more for the season! You can shop some amazing red transferware pieces here.
Red And Pink Christmas Items
What is easier than just leaving your Christmas decor up?? Ha – actually, that is not quite what I mean, but I do suggest keeping out a few of your red and pink holiday decor items. Like red ornaments and pink ornaments. Or this red garland and this pink garland. Or these red birds and pink birds. But also be on the lookout (especially after the holidays) for Christmas items that you can use for Valentine’s Day – that you may find for a deal.
I am making this suggestion to you all because a few days ago I found three bags of vintage glass flower package ties with the most beautiful chenille ‘stems.’ (I think that is what these flowers are. Someone on IG also mentioned that they could have been used when making corsages.) I found three bags of these old glass flowers in an “After Christmas Sale” bin in an antique booth that was packed with all sorts of left over Christmas items that didn’t sell. I knew they would be perfect for Valentine’s Day and these could even carry over into Spring. All of this to say, keep your eyes peeled for ideas – especially after Christmas when there are deals to be had – and don’t be afraid to dig a little!
Red And Pink Vessels
Red and pink vessels like planters and bowls and tins are an additional way to add in pops of that Valentine color around your home. I particularly like these McCoy planters because (just like the flowers above) they will work well as we transition into spring! You can fill them with any house plant, either real or faux. And, just like the pyrex/vintage kitchen photo that I shared above, you could put several of these vessels together to create an entire vignette. Don’t be afraid to dig through the “stashes” around your house for some pink and red vessels to use this season!
Wrap Up
I love thinking outside of the box when I am decorating – and while these pink and red vintage decor ideas are not earth shattering – I hope that they remind you that you can add some subtle holiday “flare” in a subtle manner with things you may already have in your home. Happy hunting and Happy Decorating.
