On a recent trip to Ikea, I came across a Christmas display full of all sorts of Christmas goodies. As I scanned the shelves full of all sorts of things from ginger bread houses to holiday throw blankets, my eyes landed on a small box of deep red honeycomb ornaments. I have seen a million versions of honeycomb ornaments in the past, but this particular pack of ornaments sparked my interest and so I picked up a few boxes. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with them (put them on our tree, put them in a bowl, etc..), but I loved the color and I was excited to use something new in my holiday decor!

As you can see, I decided to create a cozy rustic Christmas mantel and I ended up “layering in” the honeycomb ornaments right into that space. It was fun to tuck them in here and there and I love the way the color or the ornaments compliment the deep wood tones of the antique mantel and I also love the texture that the ornaments add to the space.
While the ornaments are an important part of this space, I did use a few other amazing pieces to create this rustic Christmas mantel look. I started with stacks of antique red books (like these) and then I Iayered in:

Honeycomb Options
My ornaments came from Ikea and you can find them on their website here. I went ahead and found a few other honeycomb options that I am loving from around the web! Just click on the picture below to get the details of each option!

Quick Tip
I wanted to make sure to add visual interest with these ornaments and so I displayed each of them with intention. I found that if I ‘propped them up” a bit that the space seemed more interesting. The only issue is that the paper ornaments would slide right down. So, I used a small little piece of this product to hold a few of the ornaments in place. Now, these paper honeycomb ornaments are really fragile and I do realize that they may tear when I remove them at the end of the season, so be aware of that possibility.

Not Quite Done
I do plan to add in a few of my antique ornaments once I get them unpacked but other than that this area is done for the holidays! And the best part is that this is a great Christmas mantel option that can absolutely carry you through the winter (I plan to just take out any ornaments that I might add to this space as well as the candy cane striped candles.) It doesn’t get easier than that!

I hope that this little area inspired you to try something new! This space was very easy to put together and with just a few simple items and in a few simple steps, you can create a festive display that will bring joy to your whole family. So get creative and have fun with it! Merry Christmas!
