I couldn’t wait to style my front porch this season but I couldn’t quite decide exactly what I wanted to do! I bounced around a few ideas in my head but it wasn’t until my last “estate sale haul” that I finally decided the direction that I wanted to go in. After digging up some incredible vintage finds, I decided to go with a rustic fall porch this season!
Estate Sale Finds – my porch inspiration
On a recent trip to Zebulon, Georgia I shopped the greatest little estate sale. I love shopping estate sales and I have found some of my very favorite home decor pieces this way. After this last estate sale, I was happy to fill the car with pieces that I just knew would make a statement on my front porch this fall. You never know exactly what you will find at an estate sale so I was thrilled to walk away with some great things that I knew would really work well.
Because the sale was really good, I ended up bringing an entire carload of goodies home. After unpacking the car and giving each item a scrub I had to decided which pieces I wanted to use. I didn’t want our porch to be cluttered so I made some “careful” decisions. These were my final choices!
With mums, pumpkins, and cornstalks in hand, I got busy styling these new finds on our front porch. I began by tucking a cornstalk in behind each of the chairs. Next I layered in the new pieces that I found at the estate sale and I filled in some holes with things that I already had laying around in the garage. Lastly, I tucked in the flowers and pumpkins at various heights to fill in and to add interest where needed. I love how it all came together!
TAKE THE RUSTIC FALL PORCH TOUR
Our front porch is not very big. But, somehow I managed to pack a lot in! I am excited to show you how I styled each of the estate sale finds (each piece will be highlighted below). Let’s take a little rustic fall porch tour and see how it all came together!
front door area:
I was excited to play around with this 4 gallon crock right by the front door. I simply threw some pumpkins on top of it and added a few strands of straw. I completed this little spot by adding a mum and the sweetest little concrete squirrel. Which of course I got last year at an estate sale!
Side Note: I did want to touch on this birch wreath that I added to our front door. The local stores here didn’t really have a wreath that I loved so I just decided to make one! It was very simple. I took a birch wreath that I has sitting in the garage and I just tucked in a few dried safflower blooms that I already had! It was as easy as that – a simple fall wreath!
left of the front door
I really loved how this spot turned out. The colors and textures that I chose seemed to really work well together. I used a lot of galvanized finds on the porch this fall and they just seem to fit right in. For example, the galvanized milk box that I picked up at the estate sale was the perfect piece to add some height in front of this stone wall. The milk box also served as the perfect backdrop for the green bird house. It’s chippy green paint seems to just pop sitting right there in front on the table. It really does grab your attention!
seating area
We have vintage cast iron chairs on our front porch. I decided to add my chicken feeder in between them because it wasn’t too high and it doesn’t block the window view. I filled the chicken feeder with a quick dried grass/floral arrangement that I made and I am happy with the way the natural elements of the dried florals look. The arrangement complements the cornstalks and they all seems to tie in well together.
far side of the porch
I finished off the far side of the porch with a little fall vignette. I used my favorite primitive veggie stand to hold a few fall flowers and some heirloom pumpkins! That helped to add interest and a touch of color! I gave this area some height by adding an old chain linked fence door and I hung a wreath in the center! I finished off the vignette by adding in layers around the veggie stand. Of course there are lots of flowers and pumpkins, but I feel that the 5 gallon gas can and the kerosene can are the stars here. They really do add interest as well as the perfect ‘splash’ of rusty color to the space.
you can do it too
This rustic fall porch was so much fun to put together, once I had the right pieces that is. You too can create this look – even if you don’t have a big collection of items or a big budget. Search your home and garage for items that you do already have. For example, you can substitute baskets or terra cotta pots. You can also search your local shops for things like galvanized buckets or crocks. Crocks can be expensive so a tip that I often share is to search out crocks that have cracks or chips in them when you are out shopping – those tend to be a lot less expensive.
Don’t forget, you can also find really cool things at estate sales. If you haven’t been to an estate sale before, you can see how to prepared for your first one here.
I hope that this helps to inspire you a bit. Just get creative and get to it! There are so many ways to style an interesting and inviting rustic front porch.

Your front porch looks so warm and inviting for fall. It makes me want to stop by and have a cup of coffee in one of those vintage chairs!

Omg! It all looks so cozy! But I am wondering, after scrubbing the cans clean, do you spray poly on them to protect from the elements? Or do you just let them be?
