I love to bring the outdoors in, especially as the seasons begin to change. Today I am sharing how I accomplished that here with this simple fall table.
If you follow along with me on instagram then you already know that I really enjoyed putting this simple fall table together. Everything about this space screams Fall to me and I love the way that it turned out. And now, I am so happy to finally be sharing this fall table here on the blog too. At first glance this little space may not look exactly “simple” but I promise that it truly isn’t that hard to put together.
As summer fades, I find myself longing to bring the outside in, looking for ways to hold onto vibrant color while still embracing the fall season. With this in mind, I decided to create an inviting and colorful ‘fall moment’ using a few of my vintage finds along with a few plants and dried florals. I carefully chose items that, when paired together, would be rich in texture, color, and warmth.
I love to mix and match pieces together in an effort to create a space, that looks like one cohesive moment in time.
Tips For Building A Simple Fall Table Like This
1.) Decide On Your Theme: I knew that I wanted to bring the outdoors in this fall and I spent some time brainstorming ideas of how I could do just that. I initially felt stuck and really could not decided what direction I wanted to go in though. Lucky enough, while out shopping one day, I spotted this Hyssop plant and the inspiration hit me like a ton of bricks right there in the aisle of the store. This Hyssop plant was the inspiration for the entire space. It helped me determine the colors that I wanted to use as well as some of the items (like the garden pots and tool) that I wanted to include in the space.
2.). Find Your Surface: I started with a clean white chippy table. I felt that the items I wanted to use would really pop against this white surface. This table is right by one of the doors that leads to our back patio so I felt it was a great spot to add some of the natural fall elements into our home for a while.
3.). Gather Your Items: This Part was easy. I knew I wanted to combine several old wooden pieces – I knew they would work well with the softness that comes with live plants. I also wanted to incorporate additional ‘natural elements.’ I will include a list of the exact items I used below.
4.) Add Your Focal Point First: The biggest and tallest item that I decided to use on this fall table was indeed the focal point here, the beautiful hyssop plant. I popped it in a split oak basket (along with a water catcher to ensure I wouldn’t hurt the basket or table) for added texture.
5.). Build Out Your Space: I wanted my simple fall table to be a cohesive space. I strive to create spaces that look like they just all ‘go together.’ To make this happen, I like to build up in and around my focal point. For example, I added the breadboards in the background, the basket of safflowers above, and the smaller items were tucked in here and there.
6.). Add In Fillers: These fillers add in extra interest. Here I used the dried Safflowers and the pumpkin stems (I got mine free from the grocery store) as well as a few gourds.

Interesting History About Hyssop
Hyssop is an herb and it truly has a beautiful smell. According to google, hyssop “was used to sprinkle blood as part of the Jewish Passover. Hyssop was mentioned in the Bible for its cleansing effect in connection with plague, leprosy and chest ailments and symbolically in cleansing the soul.” For more interesting information on Hyssop, click here.
Wrap Up
I hope that this inspires you to continue decorating your home for fall. And remember, inspiration can be found in all sorts of place (like it did here for me at the aisle of a store when I spotted this hyssop.). Keep your eyes peeled for items that are of interest to you and use those things as you see fit in and around your home. I promise, when you do that you will create a place that is inviting and cozy – for YOU – and isn’t that what we should be doing? Creating spaces in our home that make us feel warm and happy!
