Sharing a little simple fall table decorating with you all here today. Come see what the inspiration was for this little area in my home!
It all starts with the table … and this one has a pretty good story. It just so happens that this little red oak drop leaf table is the same exact table that I ate at as a little girl – and I remember eating my mommas home cooked French Canadian suppers there every night. (Yes, I am half Canadian!).
And, it wasn’t until recently that I learned that my mom and dad actually bought this table out of a man’s truck back in 1975, the year before I was born. And now, 45-ish years later, I am using it to share my simple fall decorating set-up! Man, life is a TRIP!
Like so many of you, I just love fall. As I prepare for the cooler temperatures and falling leaves, I like to transform the inside to match the coming season. When I started working on this set up and thought about the fall colors, I knew that I wanted to keep things pretty neutral. So, I just grabbed a few things from around the house, including these two split oak/pine baskets that I found last weekend. I am really loving old baskets right now … their texture and imperfections really just appeal to me.
But, I truly didn’t have a real ‘direction’ in mind for this table until I remembered this oil painting that I pulled out of an old warehouse on Sunday. It has the prefect fall colors and as soon as I saw it I knew it would be a great piece to use for fall. I used it as the focal point and as a springboard for the rest of this fall tablescape.
This little fall table is currently in the sitting area in my bedroom and luckily there is a cute little peg rail right above it. I was able to hang a few found items there: like this old, stained table runner that I bought at an estate sale years ago and one of my recent basket finds.
I also recently found some real pumpkins at Walmart so I was excited to incorporate them as well. I wanted to give some height to one of the pumpkins so I just put it on top of this old dry measure. I feel that the uneven lid adds so much character to the entire fall space. That is my favorite part of the entire fall table – the quirky box!
I knew that I wanted to add in some leaves too so I used this huge old jug and filled it with some faux stems from Hobby Lobby. I really like how the fall leaves play off of the colors in the oil. I also decided to add in some copper there too to play off of the colors in the painting.
Finally, I wanted to include just a few little extra details to the space so I added in a few little dried florals to the dough bowl there at the bottom and I added in my very favorite little whisk broom there at the top – perched right on top of the oil painting.
As always, my hope is that this space will inspire you and that it will get your “fall tablescape” juices flowing too!
