This stubby Christmas Tree is all decked out with a vintage village scene. Come see how I create this look, step by step!
I love a good Christmas tree. And, when it comes to the size of the tree, I apparently do not discriminate. In fact, my new favorite tree size this year is: small, short, and stubby! Yes, this year I discovered that I adore small little trees and I have had the very best time decorating this stubby Christmas tree this year! Hey, in 2020 it is all about the little things, right!
While the shape and size of this stubby Christmas Tree were interesting enough for me, I decided to try my hand at decorating it. I wanted to do something a little ‘outside of the box.” After a bit of daydreaming and a little inspiration from others, I decided to go with a winter wonderland. I create a ‘snow village’ using a handful of white putz houses that I had recently found at a local antique mall. I added in a few other vintage pieces that I already had – and here we are!
How It Came Together
I was so excited to play around with this tree. The first step was to secure my tree into a vessel. I used a large old mixing bowl! It was the perfect fit. After that, I began creating my vintage village by adding in a few little ‘snow mounds.’ I used this batting from Amazon! I simply tore off some small sections and just tucked them in here and there – wherever it made sense. I knew I had about 7 or 8 houses to work with, so I added in that many mounds.
After adding in the snow drifts, I gingerly tucked in each little putz house on top. Luckily, the houses kind of ‘stick’ to the batting so I didn’t have to really secure them in any way. Be aware, they will sit a little wonky on the tree because the limbs are not even or stable. Luckily, that doesn’t bother me!
After adding in the houses, I tucked in some small vintage plastic deer in and around the tree for an added layer of fun. I just stuffed them right in! Again, there was no need to secure them in. The tree limbs are so tight that there really is no need! I also added in a few vintage tree toothpicks for added detail. I love that a few of the putz houses have their very own little Christmas tree!
Intentionally, I only added the houses up high in the tree because I knew I would be adding a layer of vintage ornaments down below. I recently purchased these vintage ornaments at an antique mall and I was pleased to have a huge matching set. I had a few left over so I decided to tuck them in a few spots up high as well.
I topped off the entire tree by hanging a few icicles. I used these from Amazon.
It’s All In The Details
While I was really pleased with the decorated tree, I did go ahead and add a few little vintage touches below the tree as well. I have my tree on a sweet little white table and I wanted to dress that up a bit. I layered in a few old Shiny Bright boxes along with a handful of vintage deer and a few extra Putz houses. I love the way the extra touches just add to the entire look!
The Perfect Option For A Small Space
This tree, while small, is the perfect size for any small space. I have mine on a small white table in our home, but it would be perfect sitting on a stool or even on a countertop in the kitchen. I love to tuck trees in small spaces, from hallways to entryways, small trees can add the perfect Christmas touch to any area in your home.
You Can Create This Look Too
You can easily recreate this stubby Christmas tree look! First, start by finding the perfect tree. I found mine at Home Depot. I suggest to search early in the season because I noticed these cute trees did not last long in stores this year. Next, just begin layering in your very own vintage village using what you already have on hand! Don’t overthink it – just go with what feels right to you! You can mix and match colors and add in what ever you like. That is the beauty of ‘creating’ – you can just go with that speaks to you in the moment!
Recreate This Exact Look
I do want to give you a few options for putz houses and deer if you wanted to recreate my exact look. You can shop these pieces below.
Make It Your VERY Own
Now, I think this would be a cool spin on this village scene! I found a set of DIY Putz houses that you can assemble and decorate at home. I love the idea of crafting your very own Vintage Village. You can find this set of DIY new Putz houses here. This would be fun to do with the kids too!
In Closing
I love creating spaces in my home that represent my own style and that make bring me joy. I had so much fun putting together this stubby Christmas Tree Village and I hope that this will inspire you to create a little village of your own. No matter what size tree you enjoy, big or small, I encourage you to create spaces that brings you joy this holiday season.
