As we inch towards fall, I find myself revamping areas around my home for the new season ahead. One area that I have recently tackled is this sweet little coffee table in our upstairs living room. A coffee table can become the centerpiece of your living room and styling a coffee table for fall is an easy way to welcome in the new season.
TABLE
I won this sweet little Mill Table at a local auction about 6 years ago. It has floated all around our home throughout the years but currently it is serving as a little coffee table in our upstairs living room. I love the color of the warm wood. It compliments the other wood pieces in the room and while it is a little on the small side, it really is a sweet table and serves it’s purpose beautifully.
COLOR
I decided that I would use a few of my newest finds to style this simple vintage table for fall this year. I choose to base this area around a set of tan/peach/grey books and a peach/grey cotton spool chest. Both of these were discoveries that I made last week and I was very excited to incorporate them into my home. I realize that these may not be traditional fall colors, but when blended with warmer tones, they really do work.
LAYERS
Layering in things that I LOVE into spaces around my home makes me happy. I love vintage pieces and I shop throughout the year for vintage decor (for all seasons). This makes decorating with objects that I LOVE easy because, most times, I already have them on hand. I usually don’t have the pressure of feeling like I have to go out and buy anything to ‘fill’ in a space. That ensures that I am using finds that I truly love. This will also ensure that the space is interesting and unique as well!
PIECES
For this coffee table, I used the spool chest and books a “base” from which to work off of. I added warmth using a trophy and a few stoneware pieces. The old trophy helped to pull out the gray color from both the books and the chest. Finally, I chose to offset the entire space a bit (meaning I didn’t center it on the table) and that left a little room for me to add in a perfectly crazed ironstone dish.
I topped it off by adding in some dried florals to the trophy for an ‘organic’ touch and I also added in a few honey colored candles. I am always careful NOT to layer in too many items that are similar in size. Varying the size of your pieces adds interest and depth.
UTILIZATION
When appropriate, I do love to utilize all of the space that I am working with. Here, I utilized the space under the table and I added in few extra touches by working in an old wooden create and filling it with faux maple leaves.
FINAL TOUCHES
Just like so many of you, I do enjoy adding texture with things like pillows and blankets. Especially during the fall season, these things just help to elevate the space even more. I love how these pillows (similar ones here) match the dried florals. It is always nice to tie in all of the elements of the space.
SIDE NOTE
This coffee table is in our upstairs living room and is not in a ‘high traffic’ area. I feel it is important to note that our main coffee table has almost nothing on it because our three children use it everyday for things like puzzels, coloring, and snacking. While I choose function over decor any day, I do feel lucky to have an upstairs area for a coffee table that I can really deck out for the season.
READY
In just a short time, using things I already had on hand, I was able to style this vintage mill table for fall. I do enjoy shopping my home and my garage to create warm spaces for our home and I do enjoy styling a coffee table for fall. I hope this inspires you to do the same.

I like how you get the point across that it has a fall feels without using store bought fall decor. The color scheme is all you need. Love it!
