Are you already decorating for spring? I am and with the anticipation of warmer weather in mind, I am sharing my vintage seed box vignette!
Let me tell you a little secret … I love spring decor.
And, to be more specific, I really love embracing vintage garden decor during the spring.
I mean, I really love it. There is just something special and so exciting about pulling out little vintage seed packs and chippy pots after months of cold and dreary weather.
I realize that there are many of you still under a blanket of cold weather, but here in Georgia we are beginning to turn a corner. Those of us who live down south know that warmer days are not too far off and we are getting ready for that down here.
With this in mind, it only seems fitting that I would bring home an old vintage seed box (from my own booth I might add) and create a vintage seed box vignette for spring. I thought I could sell it and let it go, but I just had to bring it home. The graphics on the seed box are killer and were the inspiration for this vintage seed box vignette.
I set this little vignette up on our back porch but you could recreate this look in numerous other places in your home. I think it would look great in an entryway or a hallway or even in a dining room! For this vintage seed box vignette I really wanted to incorporate a wide variety of spring textures and colors as well as lots of my vintage spring pieces.
What I Used
I used a vintage seed box like this.
I used old flower frogs like these and these.
I used old garden tools like this and this.
I used a few small oil cans like these.
I used old hose nozzles like these.
I used old boxes like this and this.
I used chippy garden pots like these.
I used wood lids like these.
I used old seed packets like these.
I used watering cans like these.
I used an old metal table like this.
The Process
I started by placing this old seed box a little ‘off center’ on a table on the back porch. I then added the some flowers that I repotted into an old chippy pot on the left hand side. Next, I tucked a smaller white vintage metal table underneath the main table in an effort to fill the blank space and to provide extra table space to give the vignette some bulk. I then added in my terra cotta pots, carefully stacking them inside and around the seed box.
After that, I layered in several old wooden boxes on the small while vintage metal table beneath. I did this to create interest and height as well as to create interesting spots for me to place some of the other smaller garden pieces that I wanted to use. Once I was happy with the way the larger pieces were placed, I got busy doing the ‘fun part!’
I love playing around with the smaller items. Here I used flower frogs and gardening tools and oil cans and so on. I just popped them in here and there until I was happy with the balance. I was sure to also add in a little greenery and flowers as well throughout the space as well.
A Little Reminder
In case you didn’t notice, I wanted to make sure to point out that I really enjoy making an effort to layer in items into the background and foreground as well. I feel that it just gives the entire ‘vintage seed box vignette’ a little more of a fuller look and makes the entire space more interesting. For example, tucking that galvanized well bucket there in the back and adding in some greens just makes the space more appealing in my humble opinion.
Wrap Up
The warmer weather is almost here to stay and I want to be ready for it – both inside our home and out! I hope this space inspires you to pull out your vintage garden goodies and get them on display to help get you into the “spring spirit!” If you enjoyed this space then you might also like this spring vignette and this spring porch tour.
