Do you love a good oil painting? I found the cutest antique one the other day. Come see how I styled it on my Vintage spring mantel.
I am so excited to jump into spring and to welcome the sights and sounds of this new (and warmer) season! Like so many of you, I am always on the lookout for pieces that will complement my home and my style and I love to incorporate pieces that I think will highlight the season that we are in. So, when I stumbled upon this old tattered oil painting (marked 1903), I knew immediately that it would make the perfect focal point for this vintage spring mantel.
The oil painting was such a fun find and while it is a little dark and ‘moody,’ the roses really made it feel like spring to me. I think I was drawn to the painting mainly because it was different: old, tattered, and mostly because it wasn’t your ‘traditional’ spring colors!
In addition to the tattered oil painting, I also used a mix of other things that I had on hand. I love to “shop my house” and by doing so this time I was able to put together a really great mix of items that compliments the “moodiness” of the rose painting but that also feels a lot like spring. For example, the old weathered cast iron door stop was a little dark and tattered and time worn but the subject matter (the fact that it was a ‘flower’) really helped to compliment the painting!
I also made sure to incorporate a good mix of darker pieces, like these old jugs (to compliment the dark hues of the painting) as well as a few light and bright pieces, like the ironstone bowls (which really helped to make the space feel more like spring).
Finally, I added in a little texture with the books and the plants. I always feel like those little details truly help to complete any space! In fact, I think that each and every vintage spring mantel should have a plant or two on it!
I wanted to take a moment just to share this view that is in from of my vintage spring mantel. I like to use this little mill table (that I picked up at an auction for $30.00), as a coffee table and here I filled it with my new favorite plant (Baby Tears) , a nice large ceramic flower frog, a few baskets (the large one is actually my Easter basket from my childhood), and my favorite candle from Antique Candle Co.
Oh, and for those wondering … YES, I do keep a few of my bunnies out throughout the spring season, like this cement one here.

Very much enjoyed all of your pictures, I love to see people decorate with what they have and what they love. The shopping your own home tells me that you cherish and keep some of your treasures instead of keeping up with trends or what we use to be called the “Joneses”. I like to see people value things and more importantly what they have.
