I am listing the top vintage valentine decor items that you should be shopping for now before it is too late. These things don’t last long!
I love to decorate my home with vintage finds. While I decorate with all sorts of vintage goodies year round, I really like to incorporate pops of seasonal and holiday vintage decor each year. From vintage Easter to vintage Christmas – I love it all. And now that we are entering a new year, I am beginning to think about how I want to incorporate pops of vintage Valentine decor!
While some of us still have our twinkle lights out and our Christmas trees up, it really isn’t too early to begin looking for Valentine decor. In particular, vintage Valentine decor can get scooped up pretty quickly. There is not an unlimited supply of these old things so you have to sometimes be quick on the draw to find it!
Both big box stores and small businesses start putting out Valentine decor as soon as Christmas is over. With that in mind, I always begin looking for vintage valentine decor in the very first part of January. I love to scour antique malls and vintage markets for these things and I usually am most lucky during the first week or two of the year! Below you will find a short list of some of the things that I like to look for while I am out shopping for vintage Valentine items.
Vintage Paper Valentines
This is an obvious “no brainer.” I usually see a handful of these in local antique malls this time of year. You can find vintage Valentines is a variety of sizes and shapes and many times I can find rather large ones, which is so fun! While they vary in price, you can usually find vintage Valentines in the $2-$5 range in my area. Remember, like most old things, the price will depend on age, condition, and how scarce/unique it is.
Vintage Candy Boxes
What else could possibly scream “Valentines Day” more than a box of chocolates. I feel old chocolate boxes are an easy and unique way to add in Valentines Day touches to any space! I love that each one is unique and the graphics are usually really cool. Old chocolate boxes can be wood, tin, and paper.
*Beware though, I have seen some really rough paper boxes that are not desirable. Look out for signs of mold and musty odors when deciding to purchase a paper chocolate box!
Advertising With Hearts
I love it when I stumble upon old advertising with hearts. I keep my eyes peeled year round for these types of things. I have found heart graphics on books, cans, jars, etc… I have learned that if I look hard enough, I can find hearts of all sorts of things.
Most recently, I found this really cool spice tin. Now, I realize this isn’t very old – and I can tell because the date is marked on the side – but the heart graphics were too good to pass up. Adding things like this onto shelves easily adds character.
The Number 14
Whether it is old gas station numbers or vintage flashcards or old price tags, I love to use numbers around the holidays. So, for Valentines Day, I try to incorporate the number 14 when and where I can! It is so much fun to think up new ways to use these old numbers!
*Quick Tip:
Sometimes these numbers can filthy depending on where to find them! You can click here to see some of the products that I use to clean them and other items that I find!
Heart Shaped Cake Pans
Heart Shaped Cake Pans are one of the easiest and fastest ways to add a touch of valentine decor into your home! Just pop these hearts into a vessel, such as an old crate or a fun basket, and be done! But – it is important to note that not all cake pans are created equal. Older ones can be pricy and the newer ones are often inexpensive. Don’t be fooled and spend a lot of money on a ‘vintage cake pan’ without confirming that it is indeed actually old and worth the money. You can sometimes just turn the pan over and check out the markings for a date. Also, older pans usually are heavier than the newer aluminum ones.
QUICK TIP:
I also use cookie old cutters and candy molds as well. They look really good all piled together!
Any Rose Graphics
For some reason, roses just make me think of Valentines Day. With that in mind, I like to incorporate roses into my Valentine decor. These flowers work well too because you can keep them out as we slide into spring and summer.
Red and White Touches
Last but not least, I do like to incorporate simple red and white touches. The best part is that you can do this without spending a dime. You can search your home for things you may already have. For example, you could use items such as:
- red and white books
- jars with red and white lids
- red and white tins
This list can go on and on! Get creative and see what you can come up with!
Online Options
For those of you who may not be able to find these types of things in person, I thought I would include a few online options for you all. Just click on each picture for more details! These are all items that I would gladly add to my personal collection.
Wrap Up
Now is the time to begin hunting for vintage Valentine decor. You never know what you may end up finding at your local antique mall or your local vintage market. The great thing is that you can add as little or as much Valentine decor into your home as you’d like. While I do love curated shelves styled to perfection, I also enjoy adding just a simple statement piece. Either way, I hope this inspires you to add a bit of vintage Valentine decor into your home this year!
